Jim's Zip Line

Jim and his Dad made a zip line pulley system on Saturday. Jim was really inspired by the book he has been reading. While his Dad was at work he designed it. Jims design was really well thought out. There was lots of experimenting as to how to make it work. We used soap to lubricate the rope and wound our own rope from wool for the return line. Jim is very proud of his efforts and is super keen to put it on the blog.

  1. Hey Jim
This is fantastic! I really like how you have created this for the lighthouse keeper. Did you come up with any problems when you were creating?

  3. Hi Jim, I am so glad you are enjoying the Lighthouse keepers books! I really enjoy them too. Your pulley system looks very useful and just like Mr Grinling's one. Why did you use the soap to lubricate the rope? Did this make it easier for the bucket to go along the pulley system?

  7. Kia ora Jim, This is just fantastic! I really like how you have spoken about the challenges to get it working just right! Good on you for persevering. I also like the way you have thought about the way to get the bucket back to the top again. How heavy can you make the content of the bucket before your device no longer works?
