Kia ora koutou from Whaea Bonnie

Kia ora everyone,

I hope you've all had a good week so far and it's been great to see so many cool blog posts. I'm impressed with the level of effort everyone has put in so far. Kei whea mai nei koutou - well done!

Kei roto i te whare - In our house

In my whare, I live with my husband, my daughter who is 17 months, my dog and my cat. This is what it looks like in Māori...

Ko Rodrick taku tāne - My husband's name is Rodrick.
Ko Manisa taku pēpi - My baby's name is Manisa.
Ko Belle tōku kuri - My dog's name is Belle.
Ko Icy tōku ngeru - My cat's name is Icy.
Ko Bonnie ahau - My name is Bonnie.

I wonder who lives your in your whare?

If you wanted to have a go in writing it in Māori here are some sentences you could use:

These are the sentences for your parents:

Ko _________ tōku pāpā - My father's name is__________.
Ko _________ tōku māmā - My mother's name is ________.

In Māori writing about your siblings can be tricky so instead of saying my brother is... or my sister is ... let's try and use the oldest, middle or youngest in the family.

These are the sentences for your siblings:

Ko ___________ te mātāmua - (Name) is the oldest in the family.
Ko ___________ te tamaiti tuarua - (Name) is the middle child.
Ko ___________ te pōtiki - (Name) is the youngest in the family.

Here's an example to help you. I have two older brothers one is the oldest and the other is in the middle so I would say:

Ko Khamis te mātāmua
Ko Alaric te tamaiti i waenga.

These are the sentences for your pets:

Ko __________ tōku kuri - My dog's name is________.
Ko __________tōku ngeru - My cat's name is _______.
Ko __________ tōku mokai - My pet's name is ________.

Here are some sentences for any adults who might want to participate:

Ko _____________ taku tahu - My partner's name is __________.
Ko _____________ tōku hoa - My friend/flatmate's name is ___________.
Ko ___________ taku tamaiti - My child's name is __________.
Ko __________ rāua ko _________ aku tamariki - My children's names' are_____________.
Ko _______, ko ______ rātou ko ______ aku tamariki - My children's names' are_____________.

If these sentences seem too tricky for you don't worry you could always write about who is in your family in English or another language you may speak at home.
Karawhuia atu! Give it your all!

Kia pai ō koutou rā whakatā
Enjoy your weekend

  1. Kia ora Whaea Bonnie, thanks for sharing your bubble! I'm sure Belle and Icy are enjoying having yourself and Manisa home with them during the day.

Here is some sentences about my bubble:

    Ko Duncan taku tāne.
    Ko Frankie tōku Kuri.

I enjoyed learning how to write these sentences in Te reo. Thanks for sharing with us, Mrs Walker.
